The National Unity Party (NUP)  has invited Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Senator  Grace Poe to present their respective platforms of government when it holds its national convention today (September 28, 2015) in preparation for the 2016 elections.

Over 500 delegates are expected to attend the NUP convention, which will be held at the Luzon Ballroom of the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

The NUP, the country's 3rd largest political party, was accredited as one of the country's major political parties by the Commission on Elections during the 2013 elections.

Its chairman, Rep. Roberto Puno of Antipolo's 1st district, holds the post of Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives. NUP lawmakers also had several key House committees, including labor and employment, suffrage and electoral reforms, games and amusements, and public order and safety. It occupies one seat in Commission on Appointments and has one member in the House of Electoral Tribunal.

The NUP, with 26 congressmen, is also allied with 18 partylist lawmakers in the House under the Coalition for Peace and Development.

Puno, as chairman of the NUP National Congress, will open the convention and formally welcome the party delegates and guests. Bataan Governor Albert Garcia, the president of the NUP Central Committee, will preside over the consideration of several resolutions which are expected to be adopted by the delegates.

These include resolutions creating a special committee tasked to negotiate a coalition agreement between the NUP and political parties for the 2016 elections, and another on the selection of national candidates to be supported by the party next year.
