The labor committee of the House of Representatives chaired by Davao City Representative Karlo Alexei Nograles will soon tackle a measure providing financial aid to workers terminated for causes beyond their control.
House Bill 6048 grants these terminated employees additional allowances to help tide them over during their job hunting period, said Nograles of the National Unity Party (NUP).
The proposal, which was originally filed by Representative Doy Leachon, amends certain paragraphs of the Labor Code of the Philippines to provide terminated employees an allowance equivalent to ¼ month pay or at least three thousand pesos (P3,000), whichever is higher, for a period not exceeding three months from termination.
This allowance is on top of the benefits granted to them under existing laws.
The amount necessary to carry out the provisions of the proposed law shall be included in the General Appropriations Act of the year following its enactment, the bill states.
