CITY OF BALANGA, Bataan, November 15 (PIA) – Fifty public school teachers in Balanga City recently received new Lenovo laptops from the local government unit through the TEaCHNOLOGY program which allows the LGU to subsidize P5,000 for every laptop unit.
The recipient teachers will only pay P1,000 a month for a year to completely own the device.
Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III said teachers are the “frontliners” in providing excellent education that they must be equipped with the appropriate device that will aid them in their profession.
He also advised the hundreds of teachers in a program that despite all the hassles brought by the work including delay in wage, they must not feel self-pity and rather take the challenges constructively.
“The government is doing everything to give incentives to public servants. Remove from your mindset that you are sacrificing in your job. For the people, think that you are privileged serving them,” said Garcia.
Leticia Almazan, 57, teacher at the Bataan National High School, said she won’t feel the burden of paying the laptop because of the mortgage system.
She said she could teach her students in an “innovative way” with new materials presented to them through visual presentations.
“Once the pupil sees that we are using something new, they will be attracted to listen. They can relate more to the mode of instruction,” said Almazan.
According to Councilor Val Joseph Fernandez, committee chair on Education and Culture, aside from presentations, the teachers will find easier time in making grades and reports.
Also, Garcia pledged to give P300,000 to the Department of Education-Balanga City Division which will come from the provincial and city government.
The TEaCHNOLOGY program started in 2008 and has already provided over 300 laptops to public school teachers. This is part of the thrust of making the city into a University Town by 2020 through prioritizing education. (CLJD/JMG/FMGM -PIA 3)
